Gardens and horticultural programs have been used for many years as a therapeutic tool in various settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres and aged care centres. This course aims to give participants practical advice on how to run a Horticultural Therapy program. Sessions include practical activities, analysis of needs of different target groups, monitoring the program, adaptive tools and therapeutic design.

Outcomes

    • Learn skills in horticultural therapy and the benefits of gardening
    • Learn to identify target groups and specific needs of these groups
    • Learn basic gardening skills including propagation, soil nutrition and pests and diseases
    • Gain skills in pruning, planting, mulch and compost
    • Learn to design a therapeutic garden and activities associated with the design
    • To match tasks/activities to client needs and goals
