Designed for the home handy-person, this practical course will give you hands on and theoretical understanding of arc welding and safety issues. Develop skills in various welding techniques such as fillet welds, butt welds, edge and lap welds on different sizes of mild steel. Also the correct selection and usage of welding rods will be discussed and demonstrated.


Requirements

    • Appropriate work clothes (ie. long pants or overalls and long sleeved top)
    • Protective safety glasses
    • Ear plugs
    • Pen and notebook
    • Safety glasses, hearing protection and dust mask are to comply with relevant Australian Standards
    • Students are required to bring their own mild steel for their small project in the last week
    • This class is not suitable for pregnant or lactating women

Outcomes

    • Learn safe work practices and safe operation of welding equipment
    • Perform basic welding tasks using electric arc welding equipment
    • Develop skills in various welding techniques such as run of beads, edge, fillet and butt welds
    • Learn welding of channels and angles in various positions
    • Learn correct selection and usage of different welding electrodes
    • Complete a small project of the your choice
