PHP is a popular Open-Source 'server side' programming language that combines with the MySQL database management system to allow the creation of dynamic web pages and online applications. Students receive a manual and CD containing everything necessary to set up a Web server plus all course material. Based around the production of an online event calendar, it allows posting and viewing of appointments via the web.


    • USB memory stick (2GB minimum)
    • Pen and notebook
    • Basic computer skills are essential


    • Install and set up Apache Web server, PHP programming language and MySQL database management system on Holmesglen student computer
    • Learn basic PHP programming skills including data structures, control structures and use of HTML (Web-based) forms
    • Learn how PHP interacts with HTML and allows the creation of interactive Web Pages
    • Set up MySQL database to store Web page content
    • Use PHP to interact with the MySQL database to store and retrieve information
    • Set up a web-based event calendar that allows posting and viewing of 'appointments' via the web
