Kick-start your future in production nursery with this course. This course will teach you how to maintain nursery plants, apply biosecurity measures, troubleshoot irrigation systems and more.

Jump into a career straight away as a nursery worker, wholesale production assistant, green life layer or retail sales person.

And if you want to further your studies, you can go on to study the Certificate IV in Horticulture, Diploma of Horticulture or Diploma of Landscape Design - all also offered at Holmesglen.


Course structure

To receive this qualification you must complete 13 core units and three elective units.

Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.

If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.

Entry requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Outcomes

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION

After successfully completing this course, you will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed AHC31116 Certificate III in Production Nursery.

PATHWAYS

Graduates can further study in the AHC40416 Certificate IV in Horticulture, AHC50416 Diploma of Horticulture or AHC50616 Diploma of Landscape Design.

How to apply

APPRENTICESHIP

A training contract must be completed by the employer and apprentice within the first two weeks of employment.

A representative from the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network will visit the workplace to complete the training contract with the employer and the apprentice.

Horticulture Open Days

Visit us on Open Day for an overview of the Horticulture industry, starting at 4.30pm. You'll get to tour the horticulture department's facilities (at the Waverley campus), talk to teachers and get the information you need to study a course in horticulture, arboriculture, landscape construction and design, parks and gardens, nursery, turf or sustainability. We'll even help you apply on the night!
