This Certificate III in Community Services will give secondary school students who aspire to a career working with people a range of work skills relevant across the community services sector.

During the course, you will learn about meeting individual needs, community participation, working with diverse people and community development. Your learning will involve role plays, simulations, project work, incursions and excursions.

If you are passionate about empowering and supporting people, this could be the course for you.

This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (previously VETiS) course and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program.


Course structure

Timetable: Wednesday 1.30pm - 4.30pm

The course consists of nine units of competency in first year, which relate to Units 1 & 2 within your school program, and three units of competency in second year, which relate to Units 3 & 4 within your school program. Second year classes finish prior to the beginning of Year 12 exams.

ASSESSMENT

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards

Entry requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled as a VCE or VCAL student.


Outcomes

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION

This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (previously VETiS) course.
First year provides credit towards VCE at Units 1 & 2 level or the Industry Specific Skills component of VCAL. Second year offers a study score for the ATAR if students choose to sit for the examination.

Successfully completed units contribute towards VCE at Units 3 & 4 level or the Industry Specific Skills component of VCAL.

You will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed Certificate II in Community Services with statement of attainment for three extra units from the Certificate III in Community Services.

PATHWAYS

Once you have completed the course, you will have the opportunity to undertake a range of courses at certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels in case management, education support, individual support, disability, leisure and health, mental health, youth work or community development.
