With its health industry focus, this course is designed to give you the skills to achieve organisational and business goals, and to implement strategic direction.

You will learn to manage the operations of a health centre or general practice, as well as manage risks, processes and people and apply medical terminology correctly.

The course covers a wide range of topics including providing leadership in effective work practices in health, contributing and managing work, health and safety and implementing and monitoring infection control policies and procedures.

Other topics include managing people performance, and implementing and monitoring compliance with legal and ethical requirements.

Health industry specific topics include managing health billing and accounting systems, interpreting and applying medical terminology, managing risk, human resource management, workplace performance and general management skills.

A practical placement component is provided to day students, which will enable them to put all the skills from the HLT47315 Certificate IV in Health Administration and the HLT57715 Diploma of Practice Management into practice.

This will also give students the opportunity to start networking with possible employers.


Course structure

To receive this qualification you must complete 10 core units and five elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.

Entry requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

BSB31115 Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) or equivalent
HLT47315 Certificate IV in Health Administration or equivalent

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
