The Certificate II in Small Business (Operations/Innovation) will help you develop skills to run a small business.
The course focuses on providing skills in marketing, research, event management, planning, social media collaboration, financial assistance and a variety of processes required for small business activities.
With the growth of e-commerce, domestic and global markets, small businesses increasingly rely on staff who are capable of contributing to all areas of business.
This course also incorporates the use of drone technology, where you will receive hands on experience flying drones and learning about the varied applications of this innovative technology.
This course is VET Delivered to Secondary School Students (previously VETiS) and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program.
Timetable: Wednesdays from 1pm to 4pm
Year 1 (Semester 1: 19 weeks; Semester 2: 14 weeks)
Year 2 (Semester 3: 19 weeks; Semester 4: 13 weeks)
A variety of projects will be used, to keep you engaged and continue your learning, with the focus on real-world learning.
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

A demonstrated capacity in learning, reading, writing, and numeracy competencies to year 10 (minimum) level.
Be able to use a computer, including basic word processing, spreadsheets and electronic communication platforms.
Students must be enrolled in VCE or VCAL throughout the course (and available to attend/engage throughout all VCAA VETis calender days).
Holmesglen must also have a contract in place with the school at which you are enrolled in VCE or VCAL.
QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
Certificate II in Small Business (operations/Innovation)
Student may decide to explore further education, including the following business or avaiation courses:
• Certificate IV in Business, Customer Contact, Business Administration, Franchishing, Business (Governance), Small Business Management, Busines Administration, Business Sales, Marketing, Record Keeping or Business (Governance).
• Diploma in Business, Customer Contact, Business Administration, Franchising, Business (Governance), Managment, Marketing or Record Keeping.
• Business degrees could also be an option, following on from these diploma courses, if desired.
• Remote Pilot License (including your remote operators certifidate); to fly drones
• A variety of Certificate III, IV and diplomas, including Flight Instructor, Commecial Pilot License - Aeroplane or Helicopter, Aviation (Mechatronics, Structures, supervision, Aircreman, Rescue crewman) and Aeroskills (Avionics or Mechanical)
This course provides you with necessary skills to enter a career in a wide variety of industries, including:
- aviation (including Drones)
By learning how to run a small business, this will equip you to help others run their business in an effective and efficient manner, hence make you more employable anywhere.
With further education and guidance in business or avaiation you can tailor your career pathway and job opportunities to suit your goals.
