This course provides comprehensive training for painting and decorating apprentices in all practical and theoretical aspects of the trade.

Learn hands on skills from teachers who are industry professionals, in specialised facilities tailored to provide the best educational environment, so you learn the skills your employer needs.


Course structure

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must  demonstrate competency in: 27 units of competency (23 core units and four elective units).

A maximum of two of the four required elective units may be substituted by selecting relevant units of competency from any Certificate III or IV Construction qualification or qualification in another endorsed Training Package.

ASSESSMENT

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards

Entry requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Training agreement with a registered employer from a relevant industry.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Outcomes

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION

On completion you will receive the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating.

PATHWAYS

Graduates can continue their studies with the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) or the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).

APPRENTICESHIP

A training contract must be completed by the employer and apprentice within the first two weeks of employment.

A representative from the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network will visit the workplace to complete the training contract with the employer and the apprentice.

Holmesglen offers simulated painting and decorating workshops that exceed industry standards, giving you real hands on experience in world class facilities. With close ties to the industry and a high employability rate, these programs are a great first step towards a career in painting and decorating - no matter what your age. Visit us on Open Day at 6.30pm for a formal presentation highlighting the unique elements and importance of each of the building trades. Following the presentation there will be a tour across each of the trades workshops with teachers available to answer any specific questions.
