This course provides comprehensive training in vehicle and marine trimming. You will learn to make, install, repair, replace or modify the seats, upholstery, linings (roof and door linings), interior trim and floor coverings of a vehicle.
This work can be undertaken on cars, trucks, vintage vehicles, buses, caravans, trains, aircraft and boats.
To receive this qualification you must complete 11 core units and 19 elective units.
Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.
If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards
Apply original equipment manufacturer repair procedures during vehicle repairs
Carry out repairs and alterations to automotive and marine trim
Conduct sewing operations
Fabricate automotive and marine trim components
Follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace
Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
Remove and replace automotive and marine interior trim components
Resolve routine problems in an automotive workplace
Select and apply adhesives in automotive and marine service and repair work
Select trim and fabric materials
Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
Work effectively with others in an automotive workplace
Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace
Cut, bend and shape metal
Fabricate and fit loose and fitted covers to vehicle seats and components
Fabricate and fit marine covers
Fabricate and install automotive and marine floor coverings
Fabricate and install automotive and marine frames, canopies and side curtains
Fabricate and install automotive and marine soft top hoods
Fabricate and install canvas products for automotive and marine components
Prepare vehicles for customer use
Read and respond to automotive workplace information
Remove and manufacture or repair vehicle head lining
Remove and replace vehicle and vessel seats and fittings
Remove and replace vehicle supplementary restraint systems
Select and use leather in automotive and marine trimming
Use numbers in an automotive workplace
Write routine texts in an automotive workplace
Apprentices must have a Training Agreement in place with an employer.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. How to apply
A training contract must be completed by the employer and apprentice within the first two weeks of employment.
An Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) representative will visit the workplace to complete the training contract with the employer and the apprentice.

On signing the apprentice will be asked to nominate the registered training organisation (RTO), such as Holmesglen, which will automatically be notified of their intention to start training, and will contact the apprentice to organise enrolment and a start date.
