This course is specifically tailored for people with at least three years' work experience in the building and construction industry.

Together with your hands-on industry experience, the Certificate IV in Building & Construction will deepen your knowledge of building structures under the National Construction Code (NCC), the legislation that accompanies any building project, and help you develop the skills necessary to run a successful small to medium construction business.

It may also assist you to meet the requirements of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a registered building practitioner in Victoria.

This program is flexible to adapt content to cover residential, industrial and commercial low rise and medium rise construction with extra attention to risk management and small business finances.

The course is delivered two nights a week over 32 weeks by industry professionals.

Upon completion, students can expect to have the knowledge and skills required of a builder, site manager, foreman or construction manager.

This qualification is nationally recognised in accordance with the Australian Qualification Framework.

The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) will give your the skills necessary to run a small to medium construction business.

And this version of the Certificate IV has been designed for people looking to start a career in the building industry, or people looking to change careers or re-enter the workforce.

This qualification will give you the knowledge of building structures under the National Construction Code (NCC), the legislation that accompanies any building project. It may also assist you to meet the requirements of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a registered building practitioner in Victoria.

You will also learn about environmental management practices, safety and risk management, managing projects, contracts, structural principles and estimating and monitoring costs.

The strength of the program lies in its flexibility to adapt content to cover residential, industrial and commercial low rise and medium rise construction with special attention to management techniques, project work and prepare and evaluate tender documentation.

This course can be undertaken full time, part time, or online, or a mixture of all three so you can fit your study around your work and personal life commitments.

Upon completion, students can expect to have the knowledge and skills required of a builder, site manager, foreman or construction manager.

This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of the building professional who coordinates the construction of a building, taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client.

The building professional may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the state or territory.

Throughout the course you will learn the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects.

With many comprehensive building elements will be incorporated into project based learning, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and research skills in an environment of self paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.


This course is a four-year degree designed to meet the professional requirements for accreditation by the Australian Institute of Building and the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

The course embraces the construction management and quantity surveying fields of study, which are generally considered to fall within the management disciplines and financial administration of building projects through their life cycle.

The first three years of the course focus on building a foundation of knowledge and skills that prepare you for a wide range of possible graduate vocational occupations in the building industry.

All academic staff in the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics have extensive, relevant industry/professional experience and higher education teaching experience.
