This course has been specifically designed for people aiming to move into supervisory, administrative or management roles within the design and construction industry.

Core content includes environmental management practices, safety and risk management, managing projects, building codes and standards, contracts including legal obligations, estimating and monitoring costs, and structural principles. The strength of the program lies in its flexibility to adapt content to cover residential, industrial and commercial low rise and medium rise construction.

This course has been developed with busy people in mind. Our unique, flexible method of teaching combines off campus study via online course material, with a drop in campus based tutorial program at our convenient City campus location.

Holmesglen is a leading provider of building studies in Victoria, and the course is delivered by professionals with extensive industry experience. The award is nationally recognised and is supported by the Building Practitioners Board (BPB), the Australian Institute of Builders (AIB), and Housing Industry Association (HIA).


This is an intensive course for builders, site managers, foremen, construction managers and other building practitioners involved with the management of small-to-medium-sized low rise building businesses, who wish to become the appropriately registered person with responsibility under Victorian building legislation.

This course covers the skills and knowledge needed by professional builders in the building industry. You will learn to run a small to medium construction business and take overall responsibility for completing the construction of a building.

You will also learn the processes involved in selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and successfully liaising with clients.

This course, together with your hands-on industry experience, will assist you to meet the requirements of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a registered building practitioner in Victoria.

This course is suitable if you are currently working in a work health and safety (WHS) role, and you may or may not work under supervision.

You may provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others.


This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of the building professional who coordinates the construction of a building, taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client.

The building professional may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the state or territory.

Throughout the course you will learn the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects.

With many comprehensive building elements will be incorporated into project based learning, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and research skills in an environment of self paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.

This program is designed for those who wish to take their career to the next level, take on additional managerial responsibilities or are working within the areas of OHS compliance and are responsible for implementing and coordinating the performance of their organisation's OHS Management systems.

The program takes into account a broad range of industries.

Our trainers have real life experience in large organisations and are fully equipped to provide career guidance. We deliver an evening program with intakes commencing every four weeks.


This course is a four-year degree designed to meet the professional requirements for accreditation by the Australian Institute of Building and the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

The course embraces the construction management and quantity surveying fields of study, which are generally considered to fall within the management disciplines and financial administration of building projects through their life cycle.

The first three years of the course focus on building a foundation of knowledge and skills that prepare you for a wide range of possible graduate vocational occupations in the building industry.

At Holmesglen, we are committed to supporting our students achieve their learning goals. Accordingly, we provide small classes with hands-on experiences. With small classes, you won't become lost in the crowd. You can expect to join approximately 100 other students in this course, which will allow you to get to know your fellow students and feel a part of Holmesglen - while your teachers will know you as an individual.

All academic staff in the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics have extensive, relevant industry/professional experience and higher education teaching experience

All new students commencing in a higher education course must attend their Faculty Course Orientation and the Institute Higher Education Orientation.
