This Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) is specifically tailored for people with at least three years' work experience in the building and construction industry.
Together with your hands-on industry experience, this course will deepen your knowledge of building structures under the National Construction Code (NCC), the legislation that accompanies any building project, and help you develop the skills necessary to run a successful small to medium-sized construction business.
It may also assist you to meet the requirements of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a registered building practitioner in Victoria.
This program is flexible to adapt content to cover residential, industrial and commercial low rise and medium rise construction with extra attention to risk management and small business finances.
The course is delivered two nights a week over 32 weeks by industry professionals.
Upon completion, students can expect to have the knowledge and skills required of a builder, site manager, foreman or construction manager.
This qualification is nationally recognised in accordance with the Australian Qualification Framework.
To receive this qualification you must complete 13 core units and three elective units.
Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.
If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this course.
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards

Due to the accelerated pace of course delivery, it is strongly recommended that students have at least three years of work experience in the building and construction industry before undertaking this course.
Basic computer skills on Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel are recommended.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
After completing this course, you will receive the CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building and Construction.
The course provides many options for further study including the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), CPC50210.
Once you have completed the diploma, you can pathway into one of Holmesglen's two building degrees, the Bachelor of Building Surveying and Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics.
You may also be eligible to receive credits if you apply for courses at other universities.
