This course provides comprehensive training for bricklaying students and covers all practical and theoretical aspects of the trade.
A bricklayer joins bricks or blocks (large bricks) using mortar, which is usually a mixture of cement, lime and sand.
Much of a bricklayer's work is straightforward, but often requires skill and judgement. You must understand working drawings of buildings and be able to apply basic mathematics.
Bricklayers also do more complicated work, such as constructing arches and building fireplaces.
These jobs require training, ability and experience.
Some of the benefits of being a bricklayer include that you can work anywhere, you will usually work outdoors, and the role is in demand.
While studying bricklaying and blocklaying at Holmesglen, you will receive hands on training from industry experienced teachers. You will train in excellent training facilities, acknowledged as the best in Victoria, and gain practical experience on full scale projects.
To receive this qualification you must complete 21 core units and six elective units.
Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.
If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this course.
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards
