Chloe Molloy understands that the best things in life are treated as a marathon, never a sprint. The ability to learn new things is an everyday task, and she knows those that work the hardest enjoy the greatest reward.
The first-year Holmesglen student has combined her two passions with sports media. An athlete and now aspiring media professional, Chloe is at the ground floor of her goals, ready to embrace the study journey ahead.
“While my love for media came first, I thought if I could tie sport into it as well, it would be a bonus,” she says.
Chloe was drawn to Holmesglen and the sports media course for its practical focus. The delivery includes an internship program, which is offered to third year students. Industry partners include AFL Victoria, Fox Footy, Basketball Victoria, and Cricket Victoria. “That was the first thing that caught my attention,” Chloe recalls.
Since beginning her studies, Chloe has become motivated by the chance to one day make her mark in the profession. She has a strong interest in social media and sees this as an important area.
“It would be cool to be a tiny bit a part of the digital revolution,” she affirms.
Chloe is already an important part of the local sporting community. In 2017, she has been a part of the Calder Cannons TAC Cup Girls premiership team. During the season, she was also awarded the league’s Best & Fairest honour and finished as the leading goal-kicker. The structure of Chloe’s s course allows her to comfortably balance both her studies and football.
“This course caters for athletes. I go straight from class to training. Nothing bumps into each other. It’s easy to work around.”
The rise of AFLW is presenting many new opportunities in the field. Chloe believes the diverse classroom topics will help her with any future roles. The course covers areas that include business communications, PR and marketing.
“I like to set goals. I’d like to be a media manager at an AFL Women’s club. That’s the type of role I aspire to [achieve]. Being a first-year student, Holmesglen has set it up well for us.”
