Industry placements and optional interstate excursions are giving our events management course learners practical experience that links their education and future career.
Our SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management pairs learners with work experience and study tours at festival and stadium productions.
Holmesglen students Covey McNamara and Bec Bull from Melbourne travelled to see Vivid Sydney, a three-week events festival attracting over two million visitors annually.
Excursions can expand your learning
From music, lights, venues and programs, Vivid Sydney is one of Australia’s most innovative festivals. Our learners had a front-row seat to see what goes into producing a world-class event.
“It’s one thing to learn about events, but to experience something like Vivid first-hand, you then go, ‘Wow, now I get it.’ You understand what goes into events to make them amazing,” says Covey.
Excursions also give learners insights that they can take back to their event roles.
Work placements can build your industry contacts
Each year, our events students are involved with the production of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, which sees government-school students; from prep to year 12, perform at Melbourne Arena.
“Networking is so important in this industry. Doing placements and getting contacts are so vital,” says Covey.
After successful completion of the events course, our learners will have developed the contacts and obtained the valuable experience that can open the doors to a successful career.
Our events course could lead to your dream job
Holmesglen graduates have gone on to work at events such as White Night, Australian Open, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and St Kilda Festival.
“My eyes have been opened up to so much that is available in the events industry. I didn’t realise that there were so many pathways. Now I’m starting to find my niche,” says fellow learner Bec.
Bec has secured an internship with consulting and event management company Incognitos.
Some learners follow a career in festivals and concerts, some in weddings, while others work in corporate conferences.
