International students compete at 2018 University/TAFE Cup
International students embraced one of Australia’s favourite pastimes when representing Holmesglen at the 2018 University / TAFE Cup.
The cricket tournament, held at South Yarra’s Fawkner Park, saw the Holmesglen Sharks and Holmesglen Stingrays compete against a host of other tertiary providers.
Students from Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan, from study areas including accounting, building and construction, hospitality, nursing and the Language Centre, made up the two teams throughout the competition.
“Events like these helps us to socialise and meet new people. I am very grateful to Holmesglen, as they gave us this opportunity,” said Sharks Captain and Coach, Raghav Srivastava.
Hosted by Cricket Victoria, the event helped celebrate Victoria’s cultural diversity and also included a range of performances and giveaways.
“We saw many friendships form and are incredibly proud of the sportsmanship, leadership and inclusion that was demonstrated by our students,” said International Student Experience Manager, Michaela Hosking.
The Sharks proceeded to the quarter-finals. It is hoped this participation will continue for future sporting events.
“I am looking forward to maintaining this cricketing culture within Holmesglen,” said Raghav.
