Holmesglen events program wins national award
Holmesglen's commitment to running respected events courses was recognised this week, with the institute winning 'Best Education or Training Program' at the 2016 Australian Event Awards.
The award continues recent industry acknowledgment for the department following Holmesglen teacher Marc Nichol receiving the Victorian Teacher/Trainer of the Year honour at August's Victorian Training Awards.
"The Holmesglen program is an appropriate mix of practical and theory based learning and includes live production that is not part of any other similar program. The practical placements are conducted over days and in some cases weeks, which allows the students' time to understand the whole process instead of just gaining a snapshot," Marc said of Holmesglen's events program previously.
The announcement, which was made at the Sunshine Coast's Novotel Twin Waters Resort, is reflective of the hard work undertaken by the respective staff and students.
Holmesglen works closely with industry partners such as, AV companies like Pro Light and Sound, event and project management businesses like Safety In Numbers and newer organisations including, Incognitus.
"We're getting a lot of companies come to us now because of the level that our students are getting to. They're asking for interns and people to work," Marc observed.
Equally, students again helped with the production and set-up of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, held at Hisense Arena, earlier this month.
"It ensures students are well prepared and are given opportunities that will open the doors to a great career."
Similarly, opportunities are currently available in parent industry travel and tourism, as the field faces a skills shortage.
