Five things to keep in mind before starting your business and finance course

Studying is one of the most important things you will do in life – it gives you new skills and knowledge, and brings you closer to your career goals. These are our top five tips to consider before starting your course.

  1. Have fun and be dedicated

Remember, you’ve chosen to pursue a business and finance course because you’re interested in the field. So enjoy taking the steps to turn your interests into a career. Use our Open Day to meet teachers and ask questions, confirm your study direction and get a feel for your classrooms and campus.

  1. Embrace collaboration and sharing ideas with others

Did you know, we have an online community, a social networking site by students for students? It’s a great place to ask questions and connect with students already studying or those who have finished their studies.

  1. Use your course to network with industry partners and be involved in mentoring

Our business and finance faculty engages with a host of industry connections. Our business students have optional network opportunities with Glen Eira Council, and the BSB50415 Diploma of Business Administration class with City of Monash. Our FNS40815 Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking receive mentoring from Financial Consulting Australia.

  1. Explore the various study pathways to achieve your dream career

Our Business and Finance Department offers qualifications from certificates, diplomas and degrees, right through to a master qualification.

Whether you want to gain one qualification, or more, we have plenty of options to suit your study plans. For example, you may want to become an accountant, but need some foundation skills before studying a degree. Did you know, our FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping and FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting are both on the Free TAFE list*?

  1. Remember, there is plenty of support for you

Nothing worthwhile in life is achieved alone. Great success is helped along by greater support. At Holmesglen, we’re here to help over your entire academic journey, from student to graduate.

Our Learning Skills Centre can help you with assignment support, report writing, research skills, time management, and much more. If you need career advice, our Skills and Jobs Centre can suggest ways to move into the workforce.

Maybe you want to use your business and finance course to start your own business. Our Startup Hub is a dedicated shared office space at Glen Waverley campus that offers resources and mentors to graduates.
