A look into Holmesglen’s restaurants – Cilantro and Zest

Holmesglen's hospitality department is proud to feature two on-campus restaurants, Cilantro at our Moorabbin campus and Zest at our Waverley campus, as part of our community. From satisfying dinners when offering succulent delights to supporting the training of students, each venue is a wonderful representation of the Holmesglen experience.

In this article, we highlight the various features that each restaurant offers to students and guests.

Student training opportunities

We often learn our best by doing. While the classroom provides an important setting, the chance to grow your skills under practical and industry conditions is also vital. At both restaurants, student chefs and waiters have the opportunity to serve the public for a variety of events. Repetition is the key to mastering a skill. Cilantro and Zest give students an outlet to develop their skills and contribute to their learning, while under the supervision of the teaching staff.

Capacity for public, available for event bookings

While each restaurant provides a hands-on training environment for students, they also operate as public dining venues. Zest has a seated capacity of up to 100 guests, while Cilantro can accommodate up to 60 guests for lunch and dinner services. All venues are fully licensed and offer bookings for your own special event, which can include corporate events (with or without AV equipment) and food and beverage function packages.

Regular special dining events

From six and eight-course meals to events for wine lovers and sweet tooth lovers, both restaurants feature ongoing special dining events for the public. Cilantro will host Spanish tapas, chocolate and wine appreciation dinners in the second half of 2017, while Zest has various degustation dinners scheduled.

Industry-leading chefs

In addition to offering the chance to experience the dining craft of teachers and students, Holmesglen's restaurants also offer the public an occasion to indulge in the tastes of industry-leading chefs. One of our recent industry icon dinners welcomed Little Black Pig & Sons Head Chef, Glenn Laurie.

High tea

If you're looking for a delicious alternative, Holmesglen's high tea services allow guests to indulge in the baking talents of our patisserie students. A selection of sandwiches, savouries, pastries and tartlets, and cakes and desserts, will let your tastebuds escape into a dining nirvana.
