A ground-breaking opportunity awaits five Holmesglen sports degrees learners, who will join our inaugural USA Sports Tour.

The exciting study tour abroad will offer a unique opportunity for our learners to blend education and professional exploration, as they immerse themselves in the unique culture of two of the world’s biggest sports entertainment hubs – Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

What will our sports degrees learners experience on the study tour?

The once-in-a-lifetime study tour will focus on professional development, bridging the gap between sports theory and practice, and real-world learning.

Our learners will:

  •  Visit professional sporting organisations, from the NHL, MLB and NFL
  • Experience sporting events at multiple NCAA Division One colleges
  • Engage with our study abroad partner, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)

“This will be a special trip for the students, and an invaluable opportunity for them to broaden their existing knowledge of a dynamic industry that continues to grow in the bright lights of LA and Vegas,” Sports Degrees Course Leader Simone Wearne said.

Why study a sports degree at Holmesglen?

Our two sports degrees – Bachelor of Sports Media and Bachelor of Sports Business – offer learners dedicated work experience while they study.

This is delivered through an integrated practical placement opportunity in the students’ final year of study, which provides them with over 200-hours of work experience at some of Australia’s major sporting organisations.

Internships partners have included Herald Sun, Fox Footy, SEN1116, Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria, and Basketball Victoria.

“Empowering students to not only learn but be prepared to go out and ‘do’ is what we value more than anything.

“We want these types of experiences to help shape the way the students think about sport, and importantly, give them the chance to push beyond their comfort zones and what they already know,” said Sports Media lecturer Davin Sgargetta.

Graduates have gone on to secure employment following their internships with leading organisations such as Tennis Victoria, Hockey Australia, and Fox Footy.

Holmesglen abroad – what our sports degrees students are achieving

In addition to the upcoming study tour, a pre-existing partnership with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has given Holmesglen learners the opportunity to study a semester abroad and hone their skills at an international level.

As part of the first iteration, two Bachelor of Sports Media students have studied with the US college and gained experience working with the education provider’s student TV network and experiencing large-scale sports media coverage during Super Bowl LVIII, which was held in Las Vegas.

Congratulations to our learners

Congratulations to Kirra Johnston (Sports Media), Bodhi Stringer (Sport Business), Liam McCullagh (Sports Media), Alice Wilson (Sports Media), and Patrick Fry (Sport Business).
